How Long Does it Take to Get Rid of Lice?
When battling a head lice infestation, it feels as though it might go on forever! Getting rid of head lice can be a chore, but it does not have to last forever. How long it takes to get rid of a head lice infestation can be subject to many factors, some of which include:
- The number of infested family members.
Each infested family member increases time to treat and clean personal care items. - The type of treatment used.
Does your head lice treatment kill nits (head lice eggs) too? If not, you will need to nit comb, which can take several hours per person depending on hair length and thickness. - Cleaning the home after the infestation.
If items infested with lice or nits are missed during the cleaning process, it is possible they could cause reinfestation. - If lice is spreading around school or daycare.
Some schools do not have ‘No Nit Policies’. Children are often allowed back in school even if nits are present in the hair.
While most items are in your control, how other families are handling lice infestation is not. We recommend keeping an open dialog with your school. Notify them if your child becomes infested with head lice. Approaching the issue head-on can help end the vicious cycle of head lice.
It may feel like head lice infestation can last forever but it will eventually end, we promise!
